Nicklas Backstrom’s bank shot on Sergei Bobrovsky

After allowing an embarrassing shorthanded goal, the Capitals have struck back with a weird one off the enchanted hockey stick of Nicklas Backstrom with a kismetic bounce off Columbus goalie Sergei Bobrovsky.

Matt Calvert scored a shorthanded goal after Alex Ovechkin turned the puck over to Seth Jones in the offensive zone.

It happened. It sucked. We have forgotten about it.

Our attention turns to Nicklas Backstrom, behind the Blue Jackets net 13 minutes into the first period.

Backstrom stabs the puck off of Sergei Bobrovsky’s paddle. The puck soars skyward, then bounces off Bob’s back and banks into the back of the net.

That was too weird. Nicky had to laugh.

Congrats to Backstrom on “scoring” his first “goal” of the playoffs as well as Chandler Stephenson and Michal Kempny on their first career playoff points.
