Alex Ovechkin scores twice in second period, claims Caps franchise record in postseason goals

In the 103rd playoff game of his career, Alex Ovechkin has scored two goals in period two to give the Capitals a two-goal lead.

Goal 1

On the first goal, Ovechkin was a scavenger. He wisely waited for a rebound off a shot from… from… jeez, is that Brooks Orpik? Okay, yeah, sure, whatever, let’s do it.

Brooks Orpik recorded a primary assist on Alex Ovechkin’s go-ahead goal. Anyway, great positioning by Ovechkin, and good on him to push out David Savard.

Yup. You nailed it. The Ovi Spot.

Not even a Vezina Trophy winning goaltender can stop it.

The Capitals have recorded a power-play goal in all six games of this series.

Ovechkin now has 51 career postseason goals in 103 postseason games. He now leads the Capitals franchise in playoff goals.
