Caps win and this team is so good.
The game kicked off with a Marcus Johannson goal off a beautiful Kuznetsov pass. Did the third line do anything amazing? Of course, Brett Connolly would pull through to tie up the game 2-2 going into the second period.
The second period happened quickly and a goal from TJ Oshie would put the Caps up 3-2. Burakovsky and Connolly scared us all with a couple of injury shake ups. Connolly would return, Burakovsky would not.
The third began with a sick backhander from Zetterberg, tying the game at 3-3. A rocket from John Carlson would put the Capitals up top 4-3. The Capitals would then go to their first power play of the game and TJ Oshie would score again because of course. Nick Backstrom would put an extra cherry on top for his 16th goal.
Caps beat Red Wings 6-3. Bailamos, baby.
- Let’s begin with the HQ original version to set the mood:
- Fatima Al Ali got to drop the puck during the ceremonial faceoff tonight. The faceoff included some wonderful words from Wes Johnson and an epic selfie.
- Marcus Johannson was the first to get the Caps on the board after he was set up by a beautiful pass from Evgeny Kuznetsov. He has now scored three games in a row and we love him terribly.
- Look how good we are:
The Capitals have scored first in 40 of their 55 games. That’s ridiculous.

- The goal from Johannson was quickly answered by the Red Wings with two goals from Andreas Athanasiou 🙁
- Brett Connolly scored on a puck bounce after Petr Mrazek stopped a Karl Alzner shot from the point. This would not only tie the game up, but also tie Connolly’s career-high in goals.
- Scariest part of the game? Andre Burakovsky blocking a shot with his hand. Burakovsky would end up not returning citing an upper-body injury and resulting in probably the worst birthday ever.
- Meanwhile in Boston, the best sign ever appeared:

- Period two began with a tale as old as time. Bad coverage by the defenseman Mike “hand tattoos” Green. This would lead to a beautiful TJ Oshie goal and put the Caps up 3-2.
- John Carlson scored to put the Capitals back up 4-3. This would be Carlson’s sixth multi-point game of the season. He also passed Al Iafrate for eighth place on the Capitals defensemen goal list. Have a night, John.
- The Capitals got their first power play of the night in the third period. TJ Oshie would take advantage of the opportunity and score. This would be Oshie’s 22nd goal in 46 games. Could be worse.
- Nice
PLUS 69 GOAL DIFFERENTIAL
