On July 8, 2017, nearly a year after getting technically married, Alex Ovechkin and his wife Nastya Ovechkina held their wedding at Barvikha Luxury Village, an exclusive enclave just outside of Moscow.
In Instagram videos shot by friends and family, Ovechkin, wearing a black tuxedo, can be seen marrying his beautiful wife Nastya outside during a rainy ceremony. Members of Nastya’s wedding party held transparent umbrellas up as the couple said their I do’s.
Alex and Nastya held their wedding reception at Barvikha Concert Hall. Friends captured the couple walking into the venue (their walk up song was Play That Funky Music) and their romantic first dance as husband and wife.
Towards the end of the couple’s wedding reception, there was a ballet performance.
Capitals players Dmitry Orlov and Evgeny Kuznetsov were in attendance, as well as Ovechkin’s longtime teammate and linemate Alex Semin. Ovechkin’s other famous hockey guests include Blues superstar Vladimir Tarasenko, former Devils forward Ilya Kovalchuk, and Russian national league coach Oleg Znarok.
Ovechkin’s close friends Russian rapper T-Killah and CSKA basketball player Vitaly Fridzon were also key parts of the ceremony.
“To my friend. I most importantly wish you great happiness and health !!! Everything else will come in time !!!))),” Vitaly wrote.
The wedding reception was, as one Ovechkin friend told to me via text “legendary,” which included a conga line, musical performances by some of Russia’s top acts, and a shirtless Ovi singing and dancing to Boney M’s Rasputin.
A week before the celebration, Alex and Nastya celebrated their final days of being untechnically single. Nastya hosted sheep-themed bachelorette party which was a riff off Ovi’s last name. Meanwhile Alex’s friends wore photos of his face during his bachelor party.
According to a report, Alex and Nastya originally got their marriage certificate approximately 11 months ago on August 20, 2016. The Ovechkins confirmed they were married in a August 28 Instagram post.
